The Madison Bobcats boys basketball team had a solid team last season as they finished with a 18-8 record. With a good season some players stood out, the first one being Berrett Wilson who averaged 16.8 points per game and made the 1st team all-area team.
“I don’t worry about myself, my points and worry more about the team goals and stuff so it’s like if I get Camdyn to hit a few three’s Nash and the whole team is rolling then it just comes back to me, so I share the ball as well as I can so I can score and the team can score,” Wilson said.
One of the other players that stood out was Nash Humpherys who averaged 15.7 points per game and made the 1st team all-state tournament team. “Just coming to every game just with a chip on your shoulder and you just gotta prepare for each game and play hard,” Humpherys said.
After going 1-2 in the state playoffs the Bobcats started their offseason playing the state runner up Meridian Warriors, and the Bobcats won by 22 points.
“Definitely you want to build off of summer and those are good wins for us in the summer,” coach Shane Humpherys said.
The Bobcats ended up playing in the Las Vegas Classic and went 7-0 and won by an average of 18 points throughout that tournament.
“We just played, we just put it together and played together, played for each other and made a good run, things are rolling and the boys just played phenomenal down there,” Coach Humpherys said.
Over the offseason the team goal was to get bigger, faster and stronger.
“They did a lot better, I bet you most of our guys have put on 10 pounds of lean muscle, we test too, we had the majority of the guys 6 to 8 inches higher… we took a big step forward there,” Coach Humpherys said.
The Bobcats start the 2023 season at home on Friday December 1st vs the Sky View (UT) Bobcats where the Bobcats lost 72-57 last year.
“We’re going to do some different things, we learned a lot from that last seasons game, we are going to attack a little different defensively and just feel like we’re playing at home so we got to defend our home, so that’s a game we’re looking forward to,” coach Humpherys said.
There is a lot to look forward to this season and the expectations are as high as ever.
“We had a great year this year, we want to get back here and make some noise next year,” coach Humpherys said at the conclusion of the last season.
