This Holiday season, Microsoft will release the Xbox series X, and Sony will release the PlayStation 5. Here’s which consoles Madison students are interested in buying.

“I play on PC most of the time. If I were to get one, it would be PlayStation 5,” Senior Carson Hoffman said.

The PlayStation 5 was officially announced by Sony this last summer, and is set to release this November. Two versions will be released; a $399 all digital version, and a $499 digital/disk version.

“In the past, Sony has had better original games in my opinion,” Hoffman said.

Sony has released many hit platform original games such as ‘Ghost of Tsushima’, ‘God of War’, and ‘The last of Us’. Many of these titles are praised for their critical acclaim, and revolutionary graphics.

“For me it really depends, because PlayStation 5 has way more exclusives than the Series X but I already have Xbox one games that will be backwards compatible on the Series X,” Sophomore Levi Ohran said.

The next generation of Xbox will also have two separate versions. The Xbox Series X is the most powerful console ever manufactured by Microsoft, according to Microsoft. The starting price will set you back $499. The Xbox Series S is quite smaller, but will have all the necessary hardware you need to play next generation games at a more affordable $299 price.

“There are a few Xbox exclusives that there isn’t on PlayStation. One of them is ‘Sea of Thieves’ that I really like playing,” Ohran said.

Both platforms will have separate game streaming services that you pay monthly to use, and get to play whatever games they have available on it. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has a solid price of $24.99 a month, while PlayStation Now has a price of $9.99 a month as of November 2020.

When it all comes down to it, the console you buy should boil down to what exclusives you prefer playing, what games you already have, and arguably the most important variable, the money you’re willing to spend. The new Xbox consoles will release one, November 10, 2020, and the new PlayStation consoles will release two days later on November 12, 2020. Good luck and happy gaming.
