JV’s Madison Bobcats vs Skyline Bears
Madison’s Junior varsity girls played a tight game against the skyline bears Tuesday night December 3. The game had a slow start but went to a back and forth battle the fourth quarter. The bobcats fought hard but lost 26-21.
Madison’s bobcats Sophomore Whitney Wasden came out fighting the first quarter with 2 steals, multiple tips, and great defense.
“Whitney Wasden was key for us in her two quarters that she played,” Coach Mike Stansel said.
Wasden Played down from varsity the first half of the game to help the bobcats because small power Sophomore forward Aubree Orr is out with an injured wrist. Skyline pulled ahead at the end of the first quarter 7-4.
The second quarter was long for the Bobcats. The girls played an aggressive 2-3 zone with bobcat’s Sophomore Maddilyn Wilcox leading in boards. They played hard on defense but struggled on offense with spacing and finding the rim. Skyline’s Seinna Dominguez hit a couple 3’s and got some steals helping skyline pull ahead at the end of the second quarter 14-4.
“Mady said that we needed to start working together instead of yelling at each other and just have fun and that helped,” Sophomore Kennedy Klingler said.
The bobcat’s came out with more energy in the third quarter, with bobcat’s Sophomore Bryn Weekes leading the team in points.
“We played more as a team in the third quarter then we did the second quarter,” Coach Stansel said, “We moved the ball a lot better and we took shots when we had them.”
The bobcats followed not far behind skyline at the end of the quarter 16-14.
”When we came out everyone was just like ok we need to score more and play more as a team,” Weekes said.
The game was close the fourth quarter with both teams playing with more energy and more aggression than the previous quarters. Klingler and Weekes leading the team in points fourth quarter.
Skyline was leading 22-21 with 1:47 left on the clock when shooting guard Weekes fouled out of the game.
“We made some silly fouls that gave them some free throw chances, and we made some turnovers that hurt us,” Coach Stansel said.
Skyline’s key players Dominguez and Teresa Ledezma were both fouled with joint points of 4 off the free throws.
”We panicked a little bit got a little rushed on the offensive side,” Coach Stansel said.
The bobcats couldn’t find the rim on the offensive side and lost 26-21. The bobcats will try again for a win Thursday December 5 at Shelley.
