The top 10 songs of 2015

2015 was a big year for music. With more than 15 billion dollars worth of music sold in the U.S. alone, top artists like Mark Ronson, Wiz Khalifa, and Fetty Wap landed songs in the top ten.

Junior Blake Rawlings gives his opinion on the music of 2015.

In  tenth place,  we have Justin Bieber’s song ‘What Do You Mean?’ In just the first week of being released, the song had more than 21 million streams. The song ended  the year in fifth on the Hot 100.

‘Hotline Bling’ by Drake took ninth with 400000 copies sold.  It was second on the Hot 100.

In eighth place, The Weeknd with ‘The Hills’. It had 5.2 million streams and over 100000 sales in the first week of being released.

DJ Snake and Major Lazer ft. M0 took seventh with ‘Lean On’. The song streamed 526 million times with over 2 million downloads worldwide.

‘Love Me Like You Do’ by Ellie Goulding was sixth on the charts. The song was written as a response to her ex-boyfriend Ed Sheeran’s “Don’t”.

Next, Adele took the the fifth place with ‘Hello’. In the first week the song sold 1.11 million copies worldwide. The song was ranked first on the Hot 100 until it was replaced by Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’.

OMI ended with fourth with ‘Cheerleader’. The song was originally released in 2012, but entered the Hot 100 in May 2015.

Fetty Wap is up in the third place with ‘Trap Queen’. It was nominated for 3 Grammys for song of the year, best duo/group performance, and best compilation soundtrack.

Second from the top we have ‘See You Again’ by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth. It over 3 million copies sold in the United States and 1 million in the UK. It was recorded for the Furious 7 soundtrack at the end of the movie when Vin Diesel and Paul Walker drive their  separate ways.

 

Finally, we have Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars topping 2015 with ‘Uptown Funk’. The song sold over 8 million copies worldwide. With its eighties sound and retro beat, it quickly became popular and sat at the top of the Hot 100 for more than ten weeks.

“2015 was a really ‘revolutionising’ year for music. The top hits are going away from pop sounding and going towards the trend of electronic music with rap and vocals. It’s blending into one genre,” said junior Blake Rawlings.
