Mrs. Miller analyzes sentences with her class in a variety of ways.

English teachers at MHS consistently teach the use of good grammar in their curriculums. However, many argue that grammar is becoming increasingly obsolete in the modern era.

“If bad grammar interferes with communication it can be bad but I don’t think at this point it’s that big of an issue,” Junior Matthew Adams said.

Adams also said that most students tend not to remember the grammar rules that they’re taught in class anyways.

“Grammar? What’s that?” Junior Kylon Hansen said.

Another primary argument that students make against good grammar is that it’s hard. Hansen said that he thinks English classes as a whole tend to be useless.

“Yeah, they already put enough [grammar] in,” Hansen said.

Some students feel that even if grammar were important, the human race is practically doomed to the use of cheap and easy acronyms no matter what happens.

“I think it certainly says something that we’re still trying to teach people how to speak at this point in life. I think it’s unnecessary because at this stage in life most people are already conditioned to talk a certain way,” Adams said.

However, the English teachers don’t plan on changing anything soon.

“I before E except after C, or if it’s ‘ay’ as in neighbor or weigh – weird, huh?” Mr. Muller said.
