The yoga club at MHS has widespread student support and is used by many to combat anxiety before big projects or tests.

“For yoga club we get together and eat healthy snacks and we try to plan the days around stressful tests so that we’ll have a yoga club session before finals to try and lower stress and meditate,” Senior Sara Lemon said.

Lemon is also minoring in yoga studies so she instructs the classes. Their schedule is irregular due to the unpredictable nature of testing days, but she says to pay attention to the announcements and watch for posters about the club on the wall.

“Go for it because there’s nothing wrong with meditating,” Lemon said.

Senior Jessica Sutton is the president of the club. She is enthusiastic about the idea of new members.

“It’s really just to have fun and hang out and have somewhere to relax. Everyone that comes is befriended automatically. Some kids don’t even do yoga, they just come and hang out,” Sutton said.

Additionally, Sutton brings healthy snacks every week for the club- examples include veggies, hummus, cheese, or even cereal. Sophomore Alex Tietjen says the food is his favorite part of the club.

“Yoga just gives us a relaxation from stress from school and we can just go and talk and laugh with each other.” Tietjen said.

Not only would its members advocate that the club is an effective stress-reliever, but it’s also a good social opportunity.

“It’s a really great way to stretch out and get to know people,” Tietjen said, presumably with no pun intended.
