In Mr Snelgrove’s English 12 class he prepares MHS students to write the best paper that they can. The students get to split up into platoons and each have a different task in their groups.

“Each platoon is divided into military ranks and each rank is in charge of something different throughout the process. We are working on things like the works cited and gathering sources and we are going to use this later on,” Senior Tyrell Gordon said.

Mr Snelgrove started doing Boot Camp so that he can teach students in a fun way so that they learn well.

“My philosophy has always been that if they can be entertained, a little bit, then they will learn a whole lot more. So I use this to give them a little bit of ‘Edutainment’ so that they can learn,” Mr Snelgrove said.

Some students like to play along with Mr Snelgrove’s approach to learning. He makes it a fun environment to be in.

“Boot Camp is just a fun way to approach little tasks, small drills, in a group setting and then they can have evidence to use for their assignments later on. I get the feeling that the students enjoy it. There are a few that will really just play along with the ‘Here Sir’, and ‘Yes Sir,” Mr Snelgrove said.

Mr Snelgrove is the drill sergeant, even if sometimes he forgets.

“I think that it isn’t Boot Camp unless he makes us cry. Snelgrove will forget that he is supposed to be a drill sergeant and will stop yelling, crack a joke, then remember that he is supposed to be yelling and will start again,” Senior Angelica Gohr said.
