Senior Lorien Smith is more than just a highschool student. In her free time she turns her kitchen into her own bakery.

“I started when I was really young. I have pictures of myself at my grandma’s house in the kitchen making little pies,” Senior Lorien Smith said.

Smith is no stranger to the kitchen, and has had the chance to find what she most likes to bake.

“I mostly bake desserts. I like doing pastries and stuff, like cream puffs or like eclairs. They are actually pretty easy to make,” Smith said

Baking has become a bigger part of her life, and she looked for ways to share it with others.

“It started in the summer when I started getting more serious about baking. I started posting them on my story and stuff and realized I needed a place to put these, so I started the (Instagram) page.”

Instagram has become a main way of getting the word out, so she worked hard on making it just right.

“It’s actually my instagram name, it is ‘the little cake’ in French so it’s ‘Le petite Gateau’. My mom chose it for me,” Smith said.

Lorien plans to take her baking farther with higher education.

“I plan to go to a technical college that has a culinary certificate I can get, or i am going to go to culinary school.”

After college, Smith hopes to share her pastries with the world.

“I want to own my own bakery,” Smith said.
